How-do-you-do. New to the site and I'yard in need of help! The seatbelt on my 2005 Saab ix-3 Aero convertible has fully extended and won't retract. Having taken the dorsum of the seat off and looked at it, some parts are broken inside the belt mechanism and then I demand a repair or a consummate seatbelt & pretensioner replacement. New belts are no longer available from dealers every bit the company which manufactured them are no longer in business. Saab breakers accuse around £250 for a 2nd-hand one and they're rare and hard to come up by. I sympathise repair is an pick at around £130 but y'all take to remove and mail service the seatbelt off to get is repaired...meanwhile the car is off the route. Has anyone found a supplier of belts cheaper than £250, or a more than convenient repair option? Are at that place whatever other cars which apply the same setbelts? Any info or suggestions welcome :| Jeanette

We managed to repair the seatbelt on my convertible. Merely it is EXTREMELY fiddly. Information technology took myself and my Son together the best part of 2 hours to get it correct. Nosotros used i from a saloon. You have to dismantle both and brand sure to employ the locking ball from the original in the replacement. We did this because I couldn't even go a secondhand one at the fourth dimension. In all honesty £130 for the repair sounds fair plenty if you don't take a spare ane from a saloon to mitt and don't accept plenty of spare time and extraordinary patience!! Similar I said, probably one of the most fiddly jobs I've e'er done and without uncertainty i of the strangest pieces of design I have always seen. It baffled me that someone actually sat down and designed information technology that way.

Thanks Irish Carlsson. I wouldn't exist able to prepare it myself. I use a very competent mechanic and even he said he wouldn't desire to attempt to repair it. The design of this seatbelt is terrible....no wonder the company which made them finish to exist!

£130 + postage stamp for the repair seems the most economical method of fixed it. I sympathise the guys who does them uses parts from the rear belts.

Are there any news regarding the seat belt problems on nine-3 convertible? From what I empathize it is yet incommunicable to source new seat belts fifty-fifty though there is a call up for this trouble.

Hi Johnny,
I had the same repair by Rony in Leeds (although exterior Ebay), but I wondered, did you disconnect the battery during removal, fix, and replacement ? I couldnt do that cos I had to move the car in between, so now I have the airbag warning up (not all the same put the repaired belt dorsum in though).
Did you need Tech2 to reset this, or does it just remove the fault one time you plug the unit back in underneath ?
Thanks,
Tony

Co-ordinate to the instructions in WIS (Workshop Data System) the bombardment must be disconnected before starting the process of removing the seat. I followed that advice and did not have any problem with the airbag warning light.

Cheers. I'll disconnect the battery this weekend and replace the belt, see what happens. If I need Tech2 reset then I guess i'll offset searching in Wokingham/Reading expanse..

I think its too safer to disconnect the battery (and give some time for the excursion to discharge) to avert accidently setting off the explosive pre-tensioners. Also, if y'all start the motorcar with something SRS related disconnected it will throw a warning light.
